Multichannel surround sound

Multi channel audio is a technique for enriching the sound processing top quality of any audio source with additional audio channels from audio speakers that surround the listener (surround channels), providing sound from the 360 radius in the horizontal plane (2D) as opposed to "screen channels" (centre, [front] left, and [front] right) coming from only on the listener's forward arc.

Multichannel surround sound is portrayed by a listener position or sweet spot where the audio effects performs best, and provides a limited or frontward perspective of the sound field with the listener at this location. The procedure improves the belief of sound spatialization by using sound localization; a listener's capability to get the location or origin of a noticed sound in path and range. This typically is achieved through the use of multiple discrete audio channels routed to an array of loudspeakers.
